Honoring Tradition. Giving with Purpose.

History
The Lexington Symphony Women’s League held the first Blue Grass Ball in December 1961, presenting fourteen debutantes in the ballroom of the Phoenix Hotel. Among those instrumental in establishing this cherished tradition were Mrs. Lawrence Jenkins, President of the Lexington Symphony Women’s League; Mrs. Hampton Adams, Ball Chairman; Mrs. John Winn; Mrs. William R. Hilliard; Mrs. Duncan Stewart; Mrs. Frazee Wilson; Mrs. John Marr; Mrs. Emmet Milward; and Mrs. Leonard Cox, Jr.

The founders envisioned an organization where they could devote their time, talent, and energy to “assist in community betterment and raise money for charitable purposes.”

Honoring this legacy, the Blue Grass Chairty Ball remains a special evening that blends graciousness with generosity, bringing families, friends, and young adults together in support of selected non-profit organizations. Today, we continues to give back to the community in ways that honor our Foundation’s history while advancing a clear vision for the future.

Giving
While the Blue Grass Ball is a celebration of tradition and fellowship, its true purpose is supporting local charities. Every dollar raised helps fund programs that address critical needs, strengthen community services, and creates lasting positive change. Past charities supported by our Foundation include CASA of Lexington, Baby Health, and Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, just to name a few. By coming together as members, we turn generosity into action, ensuring that our collective efforts leave a meaningful and lasting impact on the people and causes that matter most in our region.
