The Lexington Symphony Women’s League held the first Blue Grass Ball in December 1961, presenting fourteen debutantes in the ballroom of the Phoenix Hotel. Among those instrumental in establishing this cherished tradition were Mrs. Lawrence Jenkins, President of the Lexington Symphony Women’s League; Mrs. Hampton Adams, Ball Chairman; Mrs. John Winn; Mrs. William R. Hilliard; Mrs. Duncan Stewart; Mrs. Frazee Wilson; Mrs. John Marr; Mrs. Emmet Milward; and Mrs. Leonard Cox, Jr.

From its earliest days, the Ball has been more than a social occasion—it has been a reflection of shared values and a commitment to giving back. Each year, families and friends gather for an evening steeped in tradition, as young adults are honored and charitable efforts take center stage. Today, through the Blue Grass Charity Foundation, Inc., the mission remains unchanged: to serve, to uplift, and to build upon the legacy begun more than six decades ago. Each year's ball is a special evening, combining graciousness and generosity as family, friends and young adults come together to benefit the non-profits we have selected.

Mission
To support Blue Grass charities through lifelong philanthropy and to celebrate our young women as they begin to make their own positive impact in the community.

Vision
Our Foundation envisions is to cultivate a lasting culture of philanthropy that connects generations, empowers young leaders, and amplifies the impact of charitable organizations across the region through the dedication of our members and the impact of our annual Blue Grass Ball. Our membership fosters a multigenerational commitment to service, philanthropy, and leadership, while providing meaningful opportunities for young women and sons to engage in charitable efforts. Foundation membership is by invitation and guided by the Board of Directors, ensuring that each member shares our commitment to philanthropy, tradition, and making a positive impact in the community. The annual Ball serves as our signature event, bringing the community together to celebrate tradition, raise critical funds, and support local charities—together creating a legacy of positive change that enriches lives today and for generations to come.
